Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC) is a nonprofit maternal health and doula organization committed to improving birth outcomes for Black mothers and babies. As a long-time brand partner, shark&minnow has helped BBC elevate its voice, grow its influence, and connect with supporters on a deeper level.
The Challenge
Despite its vital mission and proven impact, BBC faced significant hurdles in securing sustained funding, raising public awareness, and building infrastructure to support long-term growth including the development of a Black-owned and operated birthing center set to break ground in 2025. The organization needed to sharpen its brand identity, deepen donor engagement, and powerfully convey the urgency and humanity of its work.
The Solution
shark&minnow led a comprehensive brand evolution from refining the logo to reimagining marketing for fundraising events and launching a capital campaign that drew national attention. Central to the effort was Born to Be, a coffee table book celebrating Black motherhood, which evolved into Dear, a powerful exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and a hub for donor cultivation. These creative expressions became not just storytelling tools, but also tangible donor gifts, amplifying BBC’s vision and voice. Our strategic and creative partnership helped secure a $2 million grant from MacKenzie Scott in 2024, advancing BBC’s mission and momentum.
